It’s already that time of year again with Christmas on the horizon, and time to start putting your festive plans into motion. While we’re keeping things relaxed and cosy this year, the surrounding area is buzzing with seasonal activities for the entire family. From magical winter walks to Christmas markets and family-friendly dining, there’s plenty to make this holiday season unforgettable.

Local Events and Christmas Markets

One of the season’s highlights nearby is Barnstaple Christmas Market, where you’ll find local vendors, artisan crafts, and delicious food stalls. Open on weekends throughout December, it’s a great spot for gift shopping and soaking up the holiday spirit. For something enchanting, head to Arlington Court and explore the Winter Wonderland Trail, where the historic estate is dressed in festive decorations. Families can join in a treasure hunt, and your four-legged friends are welcome on the grounds.

Take a trip to the pantomime at Queen’s Theatre Barnstaple this Christmas—oh no, we didn’t…oh yes, we did! A must for a festive day out, this classic theatre experience is packed with laughter, surprises, and excitement, perfect for bringing family and friends together. The Queen’s Theatre offers a range of shows throughout the Christmas season, ensuring entertainment for all ages.

Explore the Great Outdoors: Dog-Friendly Walks and Trails

Who doesn’t love a winter walk? North Devon’s winter landscape is a stunning backdrop for families who love the outdoors. Right on our doorstep, you’ll find numerous walking trails to explore.

Head to the Valley of Rocks for a family-friendly hike with a view. With dramatic cliffside scenery, this walk is easy to navigate and dog-friendly, making it ideal for everyone to stretch their legs and take in the winter landscape. If you prefer a stroll, the Tarka Trail offers miles of scenic paths along the coast and countryside and is suitable for all ages.

Family-Friendly Attractions and Winter Activities

Looking for extra family fun? North Devon offers plenty of festive experiences for the season. At Exmoor Zoo, you’ll find winter events where children can learn about the animals native to our area.

The Combe Christmas Festival in Ilfracombe is a festive three-day celebration at the end of November, kicking off with a magical Christmas light switch-on in this charming Victorian harbour town. You’ll find a lively mix of entertainment, including Christmas carols, local bands, community performances, and a bustling artisan market packed with unique crafts, gift stalls, and delicious festive treats. Perfect for all ages, the festival also features children’s entertainment and a special guest appearance from Father Christmas.

Christmas Day in Your Cosy Lodge

One of the best parts of spending Christmas with us at Park Life Resorts is the chance to do Christmas differently in your lodge. With a fully equipped kitchen, you can prepare a home-cooked meal using fresh ingredients from nearby farm shops or even cook up a festive BBQ if the weather is mild. With a warm fire and your family (and dog) by your side, Christmas at Park Life Resorts truly feels like a home away from home.

Festive Family Dining at Our On-Site Restaurant

If you don’t feel like cooking (and why should you), you won’t have to go far for a delicious, family-friendly meal. Our on-site restaurant has a brand-new winter menu featuring five seasonal specials, and we offer an extensive drinks menu. Whether you’re craving a hearty, festive dish or a light snack, our relaxed restaurant atmosphere is perfect for family meals throughout your stay.

New Year’s Celebrations Nearby

Looking ahead to the new year, the nearby town of Ilfracombe often hosts family-friendly celebrations and fireworks. Head to the town centre to join in the countdown, or, if you’d prefer a quieter evening, watch the fireworks from one of the scenic viewpoints along the coast.
